Meechaiel Criner, the teen accused of killing UT freshman Haruka Weiser on campus last year, will not receive a plea deal offer, Travis County District Attorney Margaret Moore said.

Prosecutors will often try to negotiate a plea with a defendant in high-profile cases to avoid an emotional trial for victims' families, but Moore said she will not make a plea deal offer in this case. This means a jury will decide the fate of 19-year-old Criner in the murder of Weiser.

"We want a trial and we aren't going to plea bargain it," Moore said. "I think Haruka Weiser's killer deserves punishment to the fullest extent of the law."

Weiser's body was found on the UT campus last April. The freshman from Portland, Ore. was walking from a drama building back to her dorm when police say Criner attacked her.
