Michael Zakes knows bicycles. Zakes's vintage shop Waterloo Cycles is a part of Guadalupe Street's history.
"They're so many different kinds of bikes. It just depends on what style you're into.," Zakes said.
22 years have gone by since Zakes opened the doors at Waterloo, but Zakes wonders if cycling will be a part of Austin's Transportation in the near future.
"With the amount of new people moving to Austin you really need to put more cycling infrastructure in," Zakes said.
Zakes is supporting Mayor Adler's $720 million dollar transportation bond. Bike lanes fall under local mobility and are expected to cost around $20 million.
KVUE spoke to Mayor Adler at The Austin Tech Votes Rally Monday. Adler denied claims the plan would eliminate lanes for traffic or transit--but rather use the current right of way in a more efficient way.
"Everything that we're trying to do here probably just becomes more and more expensive. If we had only done it 10 years ago, it would have been a lot less expensive to do. Every year we put this off it gets more and more expensive,"Adler said.
