Many in Austin have been taking part in the "Culture of Good" social media campaign that's going on during South by Southwest. The movement involves doing good deeds for others and sharing it on social media with #CultureOfGood.
Ryan McCarty started the movement back in 2013. He has been touring the nation in a bus, starting in Idaho and finishing in Austin.
"The idea that I could take and teach for-profit companies how to operate their business with the soul of a non-profit because that was my experience," McCarty said. "We wanted to create a movement around that."
McCarty mentioned some of the actions to take with the hashtag can range anywhere from leaving a post-it note on someone's car with kind words or paying for a stranger's Fasten ride. He also said working with SXSW is in line with his type of culture change he hopes to see.
"South By Southwest is a perfect example of what we can collectively get people together that care about the world and mobilize them, not just motivate them to do good but mobilize people to do good," McCarty said.
For every SXSW good deed photo that is shared using the hashtag, 100 backpacks full of school supplies will be donated to children across the country.
