The Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector is calling out those who aren’t paying their property taxes.
“He called. He left messages. He wrote letters. No one paid up,” stated a Travis County press release from Wednesday.
If the amount owed by the top 10 listed delinquent tax payers were added up, it would be enough money to cover a third of what Gov. Greg Abbott cut from funding.
"I take no joy in this," said Bruce Elfant, the Travis County tax assessor-collector, in the press release.
The Verandas at Uptown property (DCM Uptown LP) was the top delinquent with $104,617.60 owed.
The property owners of now-closed El Gallo Restaurant -- Kennedy Abraham G Martial Trust & Maria Gonzalez Kennedy -- are the second-highest delinquent. They owe $88,418.21.
"I will not allow these property owners to fly under the radar and disrespect the thousands of county residents who do pay their property taxes,” said Elfant.
Lakeway Regional Medical Center and several 7-Eleven gas station properties also rank top in unpaid taxes.

The top ten delinquent tax payers are a fraction of everyone who owes money. The tax office has $39 million left to collect from the 2016 tax year. For perspective, it would be enough money to hire 1,000 Travis County sheriff’s deputies.
Failure to pay property taxes can end in a seizure. Counties are legally able to auction off property for unpaid taxes.
