AUSTIN – The City of Austin says it is delaying the release of the list of finalists for the city manager position after one of the finalists withdrew from consideration.

Austin Mayor Steve Adler confirmed the delay on the city council’s message board late Sunday. The Austin American-Statesman reported last week the council would reveal the finalists after the paper filed a lawsuit.

Adler did not say which candidate withdrew, but said “the search firm recommends we spend 1 or 2 additional weeks reviewing other potential candidates to ensure that we have the finest and most diverse candidate pool. As such, the search firm also recommends we not release candidate names until sometime later this month.”

The city manager position has been vacant since Marc Ott resigned in 2016 for a position in Washington, D.C. Elaine Hart has been the interim city manager since Ott’s departure.
