Police identify man found floating in Lady Bird Lake in June

The man was found floating in Lady Bird Lake on June 12.

AUSTIN — The Austin Police Department has identified a man found floating in Lady Bird Lake on the morning of June 12.

According to the APD, officials were called out for a water rescue at Interstate 35 and Lady Bird Lake at 9:15 a.m. A woman told police she found the body, later identified as 61-year-old Ray Figueroa.

First-responding crews at the scene said the person found in the water was "obviously deceased."

The body was later removed and transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Homicide detectives said no identifying documents were located within the man's clothing. A non-working, damaged cell phone was located, which was turned over to the APD Digital Forensics unit. Officials said information extracted from the phone helped them identify Figueroa.

Police say the death is considered non-suspicious at ths time, though the cause and manner of death are still pending.
