Bastrop Independent School District is remembering their difficult past and honoring the students who suffered.

School, county, and state dignities gathered on Saturday to remember the court case that desegregated Bastrop ISD nearly 70 years ago.

The Texas Historical Commission dedicated a marker to students who attended the Mina Ward School -- which at the time was known as the "Mexican school."

"All of us were shaped or formed by this, whether we were students at the school or not, all of us have been shaped by this history so its worth commemorating it, it's worth remembering it," said Chris Florence with the Texas Historical Commission

A park was named for the student who was the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit that desegregated the district -- Minerva Delgado.
