AUSTIN – A birthday bash was held Thursday evening for the first lady of Texas football.

The gala was held at the Hotel Granduca for Edith Royal, who turned 90 on Oct. 27.

Edith is the widow of former University of Texas Football Coach Darrell Royal. Darrel passed away in 2012.

Among the people in attendance was Finn Wittrock, who plays Freddie Steinmark in 'My All-American.' The film follows Steinmark, who played for Royal at UT in the 1960s. Aaron Eckhart plays Darrell Royal in the film.

"There are a few scenes in it that I can't get through without shedding a few tears. I especially like the ending of it because it's the real scene. It's not a movie it's the real scene," said Royal.

Thursday's event was a part of a larger effort to raise $1 million for Alzheimer's disease.

‘My All-American' will open wide in the U.S. on Nov. 13.
