Improperly discarded smoking materials are to blame for a fire that has displaced 30 people Thursday, Austin Fire said.

The Austin Fire Department responded to the fire at the Avesta Solano apartments at 8800 North Interstate Highway 35 at around 4 p.m. Officials said the 2-alarm fire that originated in an attic has been put out. No injures were reported.

Central Texas Red Cross is assisting the 30 people who have been displaced.

"Volunteers are on the scene of an apartment fire in N Austin to help the affected residents," Central Texas Red Cross wrote on Instagram. "At least 23 families have been displaced, and we are working with apartment management to make sure everyone has a safe place to go. We are also providing assistance with food, clothing, comfort items and replacement prescriptions."

The Austin Fire Department said the accidental fire has caused $300,000 worth of damage to the structure and $100,000 worth of damage to the contents.
