After a dead bat was found outside a senior living facility last Thursday, the City of Buda is issuing a rabies alert as a precaution.

According to the city, the bat was found at the Creekside Villas Senior Village located at 590 FM 967 at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Officials said the bat was untestable due to decomposition. As a precaution, the state treats these types of cases as positive rabies cases.

If anyone thinks they may have come into contact with the animal, they should call the City of Buda Animal Control at 512-312-1001, the Hays County Health Department at 512-393-5525 or the Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Control at 254-778-6744.
