A San Marcos man is facing multiple felony charges after police say a woman woke up to see him crouched at the foot of her bed, and SMPD believes there are other victims.

Police said they responded to the Treehouse Apartments around 5:30 a.m. for a burglary in progress. The woman told police she awoke to find Chaitanya Cherukuri, 24, crouched at the foot of her bed, and grabbed a Taser before shouting to her roommate to call police. SMPD said the woman held Cherukuri at Taser point until police arrived and detailed him.

Police said in a release that this is the third time the woman has awoken to find Cherukuri in her apartment, and that he had a key that matched a key to the woman's apartment.

Cherukuri was booked into the Hays County Jail on felony charges of burglary of a habitation and stalking, as well as a charge of misdemeanor voyeurism. Online records at the jail indicate he was released after posting a combined $140,000 bond.

San Marcos Police are asking people or victims with information about any incidents involving Cherukuri to contact Detective Garner Ames at 512-753-2314.
