Fire investigators have charged a 51-year-old man in connection to a fire at an East Austin home on Oct. 12.

According to court documents, AFD responded to a structure fire along the 1100 block of Flores Street shortly before 8 a.m. Oct. 12. Crews located two fires – one inside the abandoned building and outside the front door of a second structure – and quickly extinguished them. Investigators determined the fires were intentionally set, and an eyewitness told them they had seen two people near the house before the fire.

APD responded to the 500 block of Red River Street on Oct. 14 after receiving a call that the suspects, identified in court documents as Bruce Allan Craig and another woman, were there. KVUE is not naming the woman because authorities have not filed charges against her.

The woman told investigators that they went to the home to get some of their belongings. The woman said she stayed outside while Craig entered the home and went to get coffee from the neighboring convenience store. She said that when she returned, Craig told her he set some clothes on fire in the living room because he was mad. Investigators corroborated the woman’s story from surveillance footage at the convenience store.

Craig admitted to investigators that he was inside the home the morning of the fire, but said he had no knowledge about the fire or how it started.

Authorities arrested Craig on a felony arson charge and he was booked into the Travis County Jail. Online records state he is being held on $25,000 bond.
