Austin police have filed a felony theft charge against the man who allegedly stole an Austin-Travis County EMS ambulance and drove it to Killeen in December.
In an affidavit dated Jan. 11, police allege David Oliver III, 43, exited the emergency room at University Medical Center-Brackenridge around 9:10 a.m. Dec. 3 and drove away in the ambulance.
Police said they pursued Oliver at speeds in excess of 80 mph along U.S. 183, and later terminated the pursuit with regard for public safety. Oliver allegedly kept driving through Cedar Park, Williamson County and into Lampasas County. The affidavit states a DPS trooper began to pursue Oliver in Lampasas County, and that DPS and Killeen police were able to stop Oliver in the City of Killeen.

Oliver was taken to the Bell County Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest with a motor vehicle. As of Jan. 12, Oliver is in the Bell County Jail on $50,000 bond.
