CALDWELL, Texas -- A Texas family is planning a vigil to remember a 10-year-old girl who died at a rodeo.

Piper Faust was on a horse in the town of Caldwell near College Station when the animal was spooked, and it fell backwards on top of her.

Piper’s parents say she was competitive, lively and helpful. He mother says she was a spitfire who competed in dance and softball but says Piper found her true passion in barrel racing.

“She had an all-around spirit that was just infectious with a beautiful smile,” her mother said.

“I, myself, think her heart stopped in the arena,” Piper’s dad said. “She left her soul where she loved it.”

Friends have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Piper’s funeral expenses.
