With the holiday shopping season about to shift into high-gear, more Austinites will be heading to local retailers rather than major chains, according to a new report from Yelp.

In fact, Austin ranks second out of 20 cities surveyed to shop locally. The only other Texas city listed is Houston at number 12.

The Yelp report states most local shoppers will also spend more in 2016 than they did in 2015: $66 more or $324 each compared to $258.

So how did Yelp come up with this list?

Well, the crowd-sourcing review website says they looked through millions of Yelp reviews to find out with cities used the phrase "local gift" more. Then, they created a gift score for each positive review for those presents and ranked the cities by the best gift scores.
