The first flight from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport's newly renovated South Terminal will be at 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 13. Travelers will be greeted by a newly designed terminal and patio.

A big reason the renovation happened is LoneStar Airport Holdings CEO Jeff Pearse. He’s a person who epitomizes what it is to love what you do.

“I was bitten by the aviation bug as a kid,” Pearse explained. “The old adage in the aviation industry is like kerosene or jet fuel runs through your veins, and I followed my passion.”

So what was Pearse like as a kid? Probably a lot like Anderson High School senior Aidan Watson. Watson was one of 150 people at the sneak peek of the South Terminal on Saturday.

"I like airports. I also like airport infrastructure. I like airplanes. I just wanted to come out and see the new terminal," Watson said.

"If I were to travel out of here, I would be at ease," Watson said of the renovated terminal. "The blend of modern and 50s sort of thing is really comfortable, it makes me feel sort of at home."

For Pearse, seeing Watson gave him a bit of Déjà Vu.

“I can completely relate to that young man because I was in the same position in the late 70s," Pearse said.

So, if you take a trip through the South Terminal in 20 years, don’t be surprised if you see Watson working about.
