AUSTIN – A perennial favorite among some Austinites for breakfast will open its eighth location in Mueller next year.
Kerbey Lane Café said it will open a location in Mueller in fall 2018 along Aldrich Street. The café said the location will be on the ground floor of the Texas Mutual Insurance Company headquarters building, which is currently under construction.
“Bringing Kerbey Lane Cafe to Mueller is a dream come true for us as well as the neighborhood,” said chief executive officer Mason Ayer, son of Kerbey Lane founders Patricia Atkinson and David Ayer, in a statement. “We’re big fans of Mueller’s diverse, sustainable, and walkable community and are looking forward to being a part of this dynamic urban village in the heart of Austin.”
The company says the new location will be the third-largest with around 230 seats, including at least 30 outdoor seats, and employ around 100 people. The Northwest and Round Rock locations are larger, the company added.
“Kerbey Lane is quintessential Austin, and we’re proud to welcome them,” said Greg Weaver, executive vice president of Catellus Development, the master developer of Mueller, in a statement. “Kerbey Lane is an ideal addition to the local vibe we’re establishing at Aldrich Street. I know the restaurant will be a huge draw for Mueller, simply based on how often we’ve heard from people who work, live, and visit Mueller about how much they want Kerbey’s famous queso or pancakes here.”
Kerbey Lane added it will participate in Mueller happenings in advance of its 2018 opening, including the Aldrich Street Celebration on Sept. 14. The cafe’s roots trace back to a small house along Kerbey Lane in Central Austin in 1980. The company employs more than 600 people.
