AUSTIN -- Marvel fans rejoiced Sunday as the world-famous comicbook staple screened its latest addition to TV -- "Cloak & Dagger."

Freefrom and Marvel held a premiere watch party and Q&A for the new series, which stars Olivia Holt (Dagger/Tandy Bowen) and Aubrey Joseph (Cloak/Tyrone Johnson). Executive Producer Joe Pokaski, director Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb were also in attendance.

Based on the comicbook series of the same, "Cloak & Dagger" follows the story of two teenagers from very different backgrounds as they fall in love while finding themselves both burdened and enlightened to newly acquired superpowers.

Joseph told KVUE that love is why he thinks he relates to the character he was cast to play.

“I think for the simple fact that Tyrone operates out of love and I’m just a person who operates out of love too, which can come to a fault sometimes,” he said.

As a black actor following the success of Marvel's "Black Panther," he said he's especially excited for this role.

“I keep saying we have 'Black Panther,' 'Wonder Woman,' 'Wrinkle in Time,' all these stories where we have people who are usually minorities on a pedestal, and its just going to be great for for these kids to grow up with that being the norm, so I’m aware how important his is and just hope that people are ready to accept it.”

Loeb also chimed in on the topic.

“You’re the hero when you stand up for people no matter what race or gender, you are, it doesn’t matter," he said.

Aside from that, he said there are other themes people take away from the new show.

"How grounded it is, how real it is," said Joseph. "It’s really more so about who Tyrone and Tandy are as people, more so than the super bowers. But the superpowers are pretty badass too, we got a good mix."

He said if he were to have a superpower in real life, he want to have teleportation just like Cloak.

"Cloak & Dagger" premieres on Freeform on June 7.
