After tickets for Garth Brooks' free South by Southwest concert sold out within a matter of minutes Friday afternoon, the country music star did not seem to disappoint.
Brooks, who took part in a Music Keynote Conversation for South by Southwest on Friday afternoon, confirmed he would play the Saturday show sponsored by Amazon Music at Auditorium Shores as part of the festival.
Many speculated that Brooks would headline Saturday’s free shows. The festival’s Saturday lineup had a blank spot under the headliner slot for two weeks.
And Austinites couldn't be any more thrilled that Garth is in town. We asked them what their favorite thing about him is.
"Other than he's from Oklahoma, we won't hold that against him, just good country," Melanie Miller said. "Good country, good lyrics and he's an exceptional showman."
"'Ain't Going Down Til the Sun Comes Up,' 'Thunder Rolls,' 'Friends in Low Places,' most of the older stuff is what I'm excited to hear tonight," Rhonda Kastner said.
"I love the rodeo song and 'Thunder Rolls,'" Morgan Pothloff said.
The night before the free Saturday concert, Brooks surprised the crowd at Austin's legendary Broken Spoke with a show:

Complimentary general admission tickets may be obtained here starting at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17. SXSW Outdoor Stage at Lady Bird Lake is located in Austin, TX. Admission by complimentary ticket to this event will be restricted to residents of Austin and surrounding areas. Residency will be based on credit card billing address.
SXSW registrants and Music Festival wristband holders can also attend, with a special allocation of space made available via Primary and Secondary access. No ticket is required with a badge or wristband.

Gates opened at 11 a.m., and Brooks was scheduled to take the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday.
