CORSICANA - A seven-month-old girl died in a parked car outside Bowie Elementary School in Corsicana on Friday.

Police said the child was trapped in the hot car for five hours after her mother, Consuelo Sanchez - a teachers' aide - apparently forgot she was there.

Police Chief Randy Bratton said Sanchez called the babysitter during the day to check in; it was only then that she realized that she had never dropped off the baby before school.

The woman called 911 immediately and paramedics arrived within one minute, but it was too late to save her child, who was pronounced dead at Navarro Regional Hospital.

The case will be referred to the Navarro County District Attorney's office to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
