HOUSTON -- A Bellaire attorney who represents drug dealers and users will need her own lawyer after being busted on drug charges late Wednesday.

Alice Morales was in tears when Houston police arrested her at a Southwest Houston pool hall.

They handcuffed her and hauled her off to jail.

Morales, 44, is a criminal defense attorney who works at the Harris County Courthouse.

She could be in the Harris County Jail when she celebrates her birthday on Saturday.

"Ironic as it is, most of her clients are drug dealers or drug users," said Lt. Joe Inocencio, with the HPD narcotics division.

Undercover officers said they bought methamphetamines from Morales on three different occasions. They said the final buy happened at Slick Willie's Pool Hall on the Southwest Freeway.

That's when they moved in to make the arrest.

Morales has two prior drug arrests, including a meth possession charge from just two months ago.

"She mentioned she started using meth when she started defending these individuals in court," said Inocencio. "As a matter of fact, the first time she used it was with a client."

Officers say Morales was caught with 6.5 grams of meth Wednesday.

"Obviously we jumped on it pretty quick because we didn't want that kind of bad apple to hurt the other defense attorneys," said Inocencio. "And I'm sure they didn't appreciate her actions either."

Morales is scheduled to make her first court appearance on Friday.
