Max is heading to nationals. The 3-year-old canine officer for the Coppell Police Department just took first place in the U.S. Police Canine Association Region 25 Narcotic Detector Dog Trials in Burkburnett. Last year, the speedy dog earned the Rookie of the Year title. Nationals are May 17 in Tennessee.

Max is the canine officer for the Coppell Police Department.

Max came to Coppell a little over a year ago. The city purchased him from a Hill County Dog Center for $7,000. BMC West of Coppell donated $6,000 toward the cost. Max’s handler, Detective Robert Kubicek, praises the dog’s efforts in sniffing for drugs. Max is also trained to track, search for people and protect his handler. The Grapevine Police Department K9 unit has helped with Max’s training.
