The University of Texas football team is set to duke it out with the University of Missouri Tigers at the 2017 Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl at the NRG Stadium in Houston.

"We're making it happen and I think the team is making it happen," Jospeh Ukiri said.

This will be the first bowl game for UT since 2014, and many Longhorn fans said they think they have a good chance at taking home a victory against Mizzou.

"I honestly think that Texas is at a point where there's no team that they don't have a chance against," Ukiri said. "It's just a matter of gelling."

"They're hungry," Jackson Brewer said. "They want to win."

The game will mark the 24th time the two schools have faced off against each other and the second time they will have competed in a bowl game against each other. In 1946, the Longhorns took the win over the Tigers 40-27 at the Cotton Bowl. That win is like many others UT has had against Missouri since they started playing against each other in 1931. According to UT Athletics, the Longhorns own a 17-6 all-time record against the Tigers.

One thing working in UT's favor for the upcoming game is their strong defense, according to UT Athletics. The Longhorns are tied for the national lead in non-offensive touchdowns, defensive touchdowns and interceptions returned for a touchdown.

The younger players are also doing well to keep the Longhorns competitive: the top two passers, top two rushers and top three receivers are all sophomores or freshmen, according to UT.

For many UT fans, plans for watching The Academy Sports & Outdoors Texas Bowl are already in place.

"I like going to the games and being in the student section," Emily Lanius said.

"I'm definitely going to try and watch it at a sports bar or something," Ukiri said.

The game kicks off at 8 p.m. Central on ESPN Wednesday, Dec. 27.
