Austin's dreaded I-35 not getting toll lanes after vote
It looks like Austin's dreaded Interstate 35 won't be getting toll roads after all.
After Texas Gov. Greg Abbott demanded in November that no more tolls be added to Texas roadways, state officials voted to remove all tollway projects from a 10-year plan which would have added two toll lanes to each side of I-35.
The 5-0 vote happened Dec. 14, despite opposition from leaders such as Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Sen. Kirk Watson.
The Texas Transportation Commission had been moving toward including as many as 15 toll projects in that 10-year plan.
