KVUE News Team

Mark Murray is KVUE's Chief Meteorologist, seen weeknights on KVUE News at 5:00pm, 6:00pm, and 10:00pm. Born in Wisconsin and raised in Colorado, Mark first became interested in weather as a career when a tornado took aim at a radio station where he was working in 1979. Seeing such a powerful force of nature so close led Mark to the University of Colorado and Metropolitan State in Denver to learn more about the weather and to earn his degree in meteorology. In 1990, Mark and his wife, Crystal, jumped at the chance to move to Austin and join KVUE. "Central Texas is one of the few spots in the country that seems to get just about every type of weather. Extreme heat, arctic blasts, floods, drought, twisters and hail, we get it all!" Mark thinks that growing up in Colorado gives him an advantage when it comes to forecasting a rare Austin snowfall.

In 2001, Mark combined his two favorite things, weather and music, by joining the morning team at 107.1 KGSR. "Lightnin' Murray" (KGSR's Kevin Conner gave him that nickname) can often be spotted checking out the new CDs at a local record shop, catching some live Austin music, or riding the Stevie Ray Vaughan loop on the hike and bike trail. Mark & his wife are actively involved with Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Austin, KVUE's Coats for Kids, and the annual Children's Miracle Network Telethon. They also enjoy traveling, diving, and a nice, quiet sandy beach. Mark's received numerous awards and honors while at KVUE including six "Best Weathercast in Texas" awards from the Texas Associated Press. He holds the Seal of Approval from both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association.
