KVUE News Team
Emmy award winning journalist, Christine Haas is the anchor of KVUE's 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts. She's also a member of the station's Defenders investigative team. In 2005, Christine received an Emmy for "Best Anchor" and "Hard News Feature". She was also named "Best Anchor" by the Texas Associated Press in 2005. Before joining KVUE, Haas co-anchored the weekend newscasts and also served as a general assignment reporter for the number one NBC affiliate in the country, KARE 11 News in Minneapolis, Minn. Since her arrival in August of 2003, Haas has won seven Texas Associated Press Awards, three Edward R. Murrow Awards, including one for Best Writing and an Emmy nomination for her work exposing the Texas law that allowed lawmakers to vote anonomously on proposed state laws. Because of her report, lawmakers have since changed that law. In September of 2007, Haas' report on concerns over rocket fuel impacting our nation's milk supply was nominated for an Emmy award. The final results will be released in late October. Also in 2007, she was honored with AWRT Austin's "Award of Excellence - TV Personality of the Year". In 2006, Haas' Defenders report on questionable loans being granted by the Small Business Administration with homeland security funding led to changes on Capitol Hill. Her investigation was introduced as evidence in Congressional hearings held in Washington D.C. The federal government has since changed its practices and screening policies when handing out small business loans. In 2005, Haas was also honored with the prestigous Edward R. Murrow award for her series of investigations into the recycling of drivers license numbers in Texas. After exposing the problem and the damage it caused to a Central Texas woman's identity, Texas lawmakers took action and changed the law that opened the door to identity theft. In 2002, Haas was honored with an Emmy award for a story focused on the importance of organ donation. In both 2001 and 2002, she received two Edward R. Murrow awards for Best News Writing. Also during that time, Haas was awarded nine Associated Press Awards for her reporting and writing. In addition, she was awarded three "Best of Gannett" awards including one for "Best Anchor/Reporter". Currently, Haas spends time working with the local chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation to spread the message of hope and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Watch for her reports on the latest medical advancements and stories of survival on KVUE's 6 p.m. newscasts. Haas graduated in 1998 from Illinois State University with a double major in Mass Communication and Psychology. In 2004, she was named Illinois State's Young Alumni of the year. She is also a proud graduate of the Poynter Institute of Journalism. For more on Christine's family life, head to her blog @ http://www.beloblog.com/KVUE_Blogs/.
