Patti C. Smith
KVUE-TV President and General Manager
Patti Card Smith is president and general manager of KVUE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Austin, Texas, and a Belo subsidiary. Prior to being named to her current position in January of 2005, she served as KVUE's vice-president and general manager since joining KVUE in June of 1999. Previously, Smith held the position of general manager of the NBC affiliate in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas from 1990-1999.
A graduate of the University of Texas in Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications, Smith began her career in 1975 at KTBC-TV in the production department. Her career spans over 30 years in the television industry and encompasses positions in the sales, production, promotions and news departments.
Currently, Smith serves as immediate past Chairman of the Board of the Texas Association of Broadcasters, the largest and most influential state broadcasting association in the country. She's a board member of the Central Texas Better Business Bureau, the Capital Area CrimeStoppers organization and a board member of the statewide Women's Chamber of Commerce of Texas. Patti is also a member of the Advisory Committee of the Breast Cancer Services for Central Texas (BCSCT) Project, AWRT (American Women in Radio and Television) and a member of the Texas Association of Broadcasters Pioneer Club in recognition of her years in Texas broadcasting. In 2005, Patti was appointed to the State’s Election Advisory Committee, where she continues to serve the Secretary of State in streamlining and improving the process of disseminating election information to the state's constituents.
In 2004, Smith was honored as the Texas Association of Broadcasting's "Broadcaster of the Year," their most prestigious award, in recognition of her longstanding commitment to excellence in the industry amongst the over 1200 radio and television stations within the state. 2004 was also the year in which Patti, as Executive Producer, received the national "Gracie Allen Award" for best documentary, "Texas on the Air," which chronicled fifty years of Texas broadcasting history. In 2002, Patti was honored as a "Trailblazer" by her peers from the Austin AWRT membership, in recognition of her achievements throughout her career in broadcasting. Also in 2002, Patti, in her role as General Manager of KVUE, was presented with the National Association of Broadcasting's Educational Foundation's "Service to America" award, the highest honor in the country for public service performed by a radio or television station. In 2000 and again in 2005, the Texas Association of Broadcasting honored Patti and KVUE with the Bonner McLane Public Service Award, the highest honor in the state, for exemplary service to the community.
She is married to David and has two daughters, Aubrey and Brandi. Aubrey resides in Houston with her husband, Joel Munguia, and their son, Caden. Brandi resides in Austin.
