6. Pedernales Falls State Park. It features more than 20 miles of trails to hike and a limestone canyon filled with gravel beaches and waterfalls.

5. Natural Bridge Caverns. This geological attraction southwest of New Braunfels is nearly 20 million years in the making, but wasn't explored by humans until 1960.

4. Krause Springs. A spring-fed oasis nestled under a cliff, lined by towering cypress trees.

3. Hamilton Pool. It formed when a cave over an underground river collapsed thousands of years ago. The result -- an 80-foot waterfall plunging into the swimming grotto.
